3 Things to Consider When You’re Buying Patio Furniture

3 Things to Consider When You're Buying Patio Furniture

There are three ways to approach buying patio furniture and decorating your outdoor space: by focusing on value, focusing flexibility and customization, and upgrading what you have with planters, plants and other outdoor accessories.

To illustrate, we have examples from some of the accomplished designers who shared their outdoor decorating ideas in our Patio Style Challenge series.

Value

Choosing sturdy, durable and affordable patio set doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style or comfort. Above, you can see how Darnetha Myers of the Chippa Sunshine blog created a lovely outdoor space centered on the Posada Dining Set by Hampton Bay. “Its clean lines and traditional feel really spoke to me,” Darnetha says.

Darnetha used a balance of neutral tones— choosing gray cushions— with touches of color from potted plants and other simple décor elements, including some of her existing pillows, in her covered back porch.

Customization and Flexibility

3 Things to Consider When You're Buying Patio Furniture

Normally, you start with the patio furniture, and choose accessories to match. But when the patio set has more than a dozen color options you can make your new outdoor furniture coordinate with your favorite throw pillows or outdoor carpet. That’s essentially what Destiny Alfonso of Just Destiny Mag did with her patio makeover.

She chose pieces from the Spring Haven collection, settling on just the right shade of gray cushions to make her existing pillows look right at home. The brown wicker goes nicely, too, with her brown rug.

The natural look of the wicker furniture supports the comfortable and chic look of her French Inspired Courtyard.

The Spring Haven collection is part of a larger set of Chose Your Own Color patio furniture collections. There are 15 different choices for frames, each with more than a dozen color options. Choose from outdoor dining sets, sectionals, ottomans, and more. Mix and match colors to create just the look you’re going for.

Outdoor Accessories and Plants

Whether you’re starting from scratch with a new patio set, or you love the outdoor furniture you have, but want to give your patio a fresh look, outdoor accessories and plants can have a big impact.

Eden Passante of Sugar and Charm started with the spectacular Mill Valley Patio Sectional for her outdoor living room. She then added succulents and other easy-care plants and paired them with modern or rustic pots and planters, such as the tall planter you see above.
