This laundry room backsplash has an unusual, vintage look to it, and it’s super practical, too.
Crystal Fox, of The Weathered Fox, used these PVC panels to add a backsplash behind the utility sink in her laundry room. And as you’ll see, it was so easy to install.
Hassle-Free Laundry Room Backsplash Installation
When The Home Depot approached me about using their Fasade Decorative Backsplash Panels in a creative way, I was absolutely smitten. Truth be told, it was perfect timing because I was just finishing up my budget laundry room makeover and was looking for an easy, affordable backsplash solution for behind my utility sink. This was the perfect solution!
It took about two hours to install the laundry room backsplash, and it adds so much character to the space!

- Loctite Glue
- 18 in. x 24 in. Traditional 1 PVC Decorative Backsplash Panels in Crosshatch Silver
- J-Trim Pieces
- Inside Corner Trim Pieces
- Outlet Covers OR Backsplash Accessory Kit in Crosshatch Silver
- Permanent Marker
- Clear Tape
- Painter’s Tape
Step 1: Paint the laundry room walls
Before adding the laundry room backsplash, we had just painted the walls and cabinets with a fresh coat of paint.
We also scrubbed the utility sink clean and added a clothing hanger above it for added convenience.
Because the utility sink gets a lot of use, we really wanted to have something behind it to help keep the walls looking clean and polished.
We decided to bring the backsplash up to the top of the cabinets, so we wanted a backsplash that was inexpensive and easy to install.
Step 2: Test out your arrangement
I used painter’s tape on the back of the tiles to hold the tiles in place and test out how everything fits together.
I’m sure I saved myself from a ton of mistakes just by laying it all out, adding the edges, and visualizing the cuts.
Step 3: Choose finished edges
Once you have decided how many tiles you will need, you’ll now want to consider what finished edges you want to use.
I chose to use the flat finished edge for the top and sides of the backsplash, and I chose the corner pieces for the corner of the wall and where the backsplash will meet the utility sink. This will be great for making sure water doesn’t run down my walls when it splashes on the backsplash!
Put your plan into action! Now it’s just a matter of cutting your pieces, adding your adhesive, and fitting the tiles together!
TIP: I found it much easier to add my corner pieces in as I added each tile to the wall. The flat edges can wait until the last step.
And if you have two corner pieces that meet, cut them at a 45-degree angle, like this, so they fit together seamlessly!
I was lucky enough to not have very many cuts to make, but if you do have cuts to make, this material is really easy to work with. And as long as you’re cutting in a straight line, you don’t have to worry about those raw edges because the trim will cover those up flawlessly.
TIP: I used a permanent marker to mark my cuts, and I put a little piece of clear tape over where I wanted to make a cut mark so I wouldn’t mark up the tile!
Step 4: Add your trim
Remember when I said not to worry about those raw scissor cut edges?
Now, add your trim, and tell me I was right all along :)
As for the corners where they meet, they’re so thin that they can fold one right over the other with no problem.
The trim finishes everything off so nicely, right!?
