Even though it’s a small space, sometimes a linen closet upgrade can make a big difference in your home. But you don’t want to make it too complicated.

Brandi Abdul-Malik, who writes the DIY blog Don’t Disturb This Groove, found a novel and very easy way to make her linen closet look absolutely smashing: PVC tile.

Linen Closet Upgrade

One of my oldest DIY projects is my striped linen closet. I remember how excited I was to play with the horizontal stripe trend and leaped at the opportunity to give my closet a fresh look. I added the wallpaper years ago and, as always, my taste changed and I began to grow tired of  the stripes.

What was once my favorite DIY project became an eyesore as I slowly redecorated the rest of my house over the years.

The wallpaper became such an eyesore once it began to bulge and peel away from the wall. I always feared guests would accidentally open the door, since it’s right next to the bathroom.

PVC Tile to the Rescue

Fortunately, the choice was made for me when The Home Depot asked to collaborate on a project that involved vinyl ceiling tiles. Of course I was more than happy to accept this challenge and learn more about PVC tile made by Acoustic Ceiling Products.

These tiles are very durable, yet light and flexible. They are easy to install yourself.

These products provide the look of classic tin with both traditional and modern finishes. For my project I chose the tiles from the very stylish Fasade line, specifically, the Traditional Decorative Backsplash Panel in Crosshatch Silver.

Take a look at how easy it was to install these tiles in my linen closet upgrade.

Prepping the Area

To get started, I removed the wallpaper, wiped down the walls and gave the visible areas a fresh coat of white paint.

Quick and Easy Installation

When I received the PVC tiles, I was oddly surprised. I loved the metallic tones and intricate details. Closets are the perfect opportunity to experiment with a bold color or pattern, and in this case pattern was not overwhelming and makes the most of my small linen closet space.

The panels are light, flexible and easy to cut, eliminating the need for a contractor. All you need are a tape measure, scissors and a tube of polyurethane adhesive, or you can use double-sided adhesive tape made especially make for these Fasade tiles.

Matching trim is available for corner pieces, to give it a seamless look.

However, I was a bit concerned with how easy installation truly would be.

Luckily though, it was a very simple set-up.

I measured my closet, I cut the vinyl tiles to size, applied double sided tape to the backside, and adhered it to the wall.

Within a few hours, I had a completely new look in my linen closet. There was no drying time and no messy grout to smear!

All that was left to do was restyle the closet’s interior.

I added new wicker baskets, moved the toiletries into the closet instead of displaying them on the bathroom counter, to make the closet complete.

I store our everyday washcloths, towels and extra bed linens in a dresser in our hallway.

I left a few out in the basket for guests.

The clear space on the floor can now hold extra pillows.

I absolutely love the end result. It’s textured, polished, and neat.
