Outdoor Entertaining Area: Drab Slab Now Fab

LifestyledAtlanta_Patio-Style-Challenge_1

You will be amazed when you see how this outdoor entertaining area started. It was your typical, drab cement slab patio, until it got a complete patio makeover. Now it has a new outdoor sectional, string lights, outdoor curtains, and maybe the most ingenious addition: beautiful deck flooring!

This is all the work of Courtney Clymer of the blog Lifestyled Atlanta, for our Patio Style Challenge series of patio makeovers here on The Home Depot Blog.

The results are absolutely beautiful! Read on to see how Courtney created this fabulous outdoor entertaining area.

Fabulous Outdoor Entertaining Area

I was so excited when Home Depot asked me to participate in this spring’s Patio Style Challenge. Literally just the day before, my husband Harrison and I were talking about how we could jazz up our patio space before the warm weather arrived! We absolutely love entertaining and spending time outside, so this was huge for our little, sad concrete slab-of-a-patio.

When we bought our house almost two years ago, we had to give some major TLC to literally every room in the house. This meant that our patio was left neglected and although we did spend some time out there, I never really loved it.

Above, you see what we were working with, before the patio makeover.

And here you can see how the new patio turned out. Pretty, nice, isn’t it?

Let’s look at the details.

Deck Flooring for the Patio

Since we do have a concrete slab for our patio space, we wanted to start from the ground up. We thought adding a deck flooring would really make the patio feel cleaner, nicer and more like a deck.

Our patio makeover started there with our NewTechWood Deck-A-Floor. In one day, our patio already felt completely transformed! See how we installed the deck flooring here on The Home Depot Blog.

The Outdoor Sectional

We have a table outside to eat at, but I really wanted a comfortable space to lounge with coffee or a cocktail, making this a well-rounded outdoor entertaining area. Enter, the Beverly 5-Piece Sectional  (plus one extra middle piece to add more seating). The Beverly Outdoor Collection is available in no fewer than 17 fabric choices, so you can create just about any outdoor look you want. I chose the beige cushions to be a neutral backdrop for the splashes of color I added with pillows.

This sectional is amazing. The quality is great, and it is so comfortable. It looks even better in person. I have spent every morning out here with my coffee since we got it. This is the perfect outdoor lounging space.

DIY Outdoor Curtains

I’ve always been obsessed with outdoor curtains, so I took this as my opportunity to add them to our patio. Harrison built a structure that extends from our house, around the perimeter of the patio, using copper piping (because who doesn’t love copper!) bought at our local Home Depot store. He cut, soldered, attached, drilled, and voila! We have a place to hang curtains!

Outdoor String Lights

After the curtains were hung, we strung outdoor lights to create a “ceiling of lights” effect.

I believe that lighting absolutely makes a space, so this was a necessity for me!

The New KitchenAid Grill

An outdoor entertaining space isn’t complete without a grill! This new KitchenAid propane gas grill is amazing. It’s small enough not to get in the way, and it looks great.

The Outdoor Pillows

Add in colorful outdoor pillows, and the patio decor is complete. If you follow along with my blog, you know I am obsessed with anything leopard. When I saw these spotted pillows, I knew I had to use them! I added in these ikat pillows to coordinate.

I added patio accessories, too. This garden stool comes in handy as a table and for extra seating.

Time to Enjoy the New Patio
