Elegant and Chic Christmas Mantel Makeover

Elegant and Chic Christmas Mantel Makeover

This Christmas mantel started with a mantel makeover.

Sara Davis of Sincerely, Sara D gave her mantel a fresh coat of paint and applied rustic, woodland-themed wallpaper to the adjoining wall. Then she completed the Christmas mantel decorations with holiday decor from The Home Depot.

Take a look at her chic Christmas mantel and pick up some ideas for your own fireplace mantel.

Elegant and Chic Christmas Mantel

When The Home Depot sent me items to design a Christmas mantel, the timing was perfect. We have lived in our home for three years, and I have been wanting to makeover the mantel for some time. This Style Challenge was just the push I needed to make it happen.

Our fireplace has always bothered me because the mantel looks so disconnected and seems like an afterthought. I painted the entire fireplace (mantel and all) the same off-white color of our trim and made it match the rest of our home (all of our doors and trims are painted).

Zinnser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer

I lightly sanded the glossy varnish finish on the mantel and painted it with Zinnser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer.

Behr Marquee Paint

After the primer was dry, I used Behr Marquee paint that had been tinted to match our trim.

Grey Woods Peel and Stick Wallpaper

I stenciled the wall almost three years and was ready for a change. I love wallpaper  but not the commitment. I found this fun peel and stick wallpaper from NuWallpaper called Grey Woods which would look perfect for the upcoming winter months.

Although it was an easy and fairly inexpensive makeover, it provided the room with an entirely new and fresh look.

Winterberry Artificial Garland

The Home Depot sent me boxes of beautiful Christmas decor to decorate my newly refreshed mantel.

I was sent two Winterberry Artificial Garlands from Martha Stewart Living and strung them across the mantel.

Winterberry Artificial Swags from Martha Stewart Living

The Winterberry Artificial Swags from Martha Stewart Living were hung from either end of the mantel.

White Wooden Holiday Lantern with LED Resin Timer Candle

On either side of the fireplace, I added these wooden holiday lanterns with timer candles.

DIY wooden sign for the Winterberry Artificial Wreath

I added our stockings and created a DIY wooden sign for the matching Winterberry Artificial Wreath.

Metal Christmas Countdown Calendar from Martha Stewart Living

I used this adorable Metal Christmas Countdown Calendar from Martha Stewart Living as a tray on the coffee table.

The stockings helped complete the look.

I used Command hooks to hang the stockings.

I added Martha Stewart Livings Warm White Copper Lights to the garland and wreath.

I love the contrast of the red with the white fireplace and the decor looks great with the lights on or off. Either way, it makes a gorgeous statement.
