We’ll be applying Rust-Oleum’s RockSolid garage floor coating.

Materials

Before You Start
Read through all instructions in your garage floor coating kit regarding proper floor preparation before you begin. A few things you may need to do include sweeping, degreasing, and patching your concrete floor. You will also need to use the concrete etch included in your kit to etch the floor before coating. Once your floor is clean, allow 24 hours for it to dry. It’s important that your floor is completely moisture-free before you begin coating. See the instructions included in your kit for more details on how to tell if your floor is dry enough.

Step 1: Tape Off Edges

Once your floor is clean, completely dry, and ready for coating, use high quality painter’s tape to tape off the walls of the garage. This will give you a clean line when you apply the coating.

Step 2: Lay Out Drop Cloth

While you’re mixing the coating, you’ll want to protect your garage floor from drips and spills with a drop cloth.

Step 3: Knead

Knead the floor coating pouch thoroughly to aid in mixing the product.

IMPORTANT: Only work with one pouch at a time. If you need multiple pouches to cover your floor, finish applying the contents of the first pouch before you mix another. Use a fresh roller and bucket for each kit.

Step 4: Burst

Then, lay it flat on your drop cloth and roll it from the Part A side toward the Part B side (like a tube of toothpaste) until the middle seal bursts.

Step 5: Shake

Vigorously shake the pouch to mix both components. Shake up and down, and side to side for two to three minutes.

TIP: Once the product is mixed, the coating is activated and needs to be applied within 45-60 minutes.

Step 6: Pour

Cut off a corner of the pouch with scissors and pour the coating into your bucket.

Step 7: Add Metallic Tint

Open the metallic tint powder and pour it into the bucket as well.

Step 8: Mix in Metallic Tint

Using a helix paint mixer and drill, thoroughly mix the tint into the garage floor coating. While you mix, use the stir stick included in your kit to periodically scrape the sides of the bucket. This will ensure that the tint is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Step 9: Cut In Around Edges

Use your chip brush to paint around the perimeter of the garage floor (the areas you taped off in Step 1).

Step 10: Pour Onto Floor

Working in 5 x 5 ft. sections, pour the coating directly onto the floor in a ribbon, about a foot from the back wall. The ribbon of coating should be 4 to 5 ft. long and 3 to 4 in. wide to cover your first section.

Step 11: Roll

Roll the garage floor coating onto the floor evenly until your 5 x 5 ft. section is completely coated. Some spots may appear somewhat see-through.

Now that the area is covered, use your roller to re-roll over the area, this time in a circular motion (like applying wax to a car). These circular patterns will create a dynamic metallic effect in the floor.

Step 12: Repeat Over Entire Floor

Repeat this process, continuing to work in 5 x 5 ft. sections until the garage floor is completely coated. Only open an additional kit after you’ve completely used up the coating from the previous. Each kit covers 100-125 square feet (two kits are needed for a one-car garage).

Step 13: Let Dry/Cure

Let the garage floor coating dry for eight to 10 hours before allowing foot traffic, and at least 24 hours before returning your car to the garage.
