On the 1 x 4 in. x 6 ft. board, measure and make a mark every 17 1/4 in. This will create four equal sections for the legs. There will be a small part of the board left over on the end that will be cut off.

On the 1 x 12 in. x 8 ft. board, measure and mark one section of the board at 37 1/2 in. This is the top board. Mark one section at 36 in., which will be the bottom board. You can discard the remaining pieces or save them for another project.

Step 3: Paint or Stain Your Wood

Paint or stain the wood the color of your choice. For this project we used BEHR’s Ultra Pure White Interior Paint and Primer. Allow the paint to dry before proceeding to the next step.

Step 4: Pre-Drill Holes and Attach the Crates

Pro-tip: Pre-drilling holes in the crate slats will help keep the wood slats from splitting.

After pre-drilling the holes, turn the two large crates slat side down and attach them side by side in the center using #10 1 1/4 in. wood screws in each of the four corners.

Step 4: Drill the Screws
