Simple Fall Front Door Decor Ideas

Simple Fall Front Door Decor Ideas

Ashley Lloyd of Let’s Mingle is here to show you how to make a big impact with your fall front door decor without spending a lot or requiring superhuman crafting skills.

It’s part of our Halloween and Harvest Style Challenge series here on The Home Depot Blog. We sent Ashley some Home Depot harvest decorations, and let her do the rest.

Her personalized fall wreath, rattan pumpkin garland and gourd-filled lanterns are just three of her simple ways to make your fall front door decor celebrate the season.

Fall Front Door Decor

Halloween is fantastic (and my favorite!), but the fall harvest season starts in September and lasts all the way through Thanksgiving, so I really try to choose home décor that will last through the months and will also easily transition through each holiday too.

The front door is the perfect place to start with your home décor. After all, it’s the first thing you and your house guests will see when they come over!

I created a fun and really easy design to take your door from boring to beautiful with a few simple steps and easy-to-find supplies. Plus, even if you are DIY challenged, this door décor will make you look like a pro without any skills necessary.

A wreath is an easy way to make your front door more inviting, but not everyone wants to make their own. I picked up this pretty harvest wreath from The Home Depot and personalized with with a monogram. I spray painted a a wooden letter to match the metallic accents in the wreath. I then used hot glue to secure to the wreath.

My door still needed a little bit more fun, so I created a really easy pumpkin garland that I put up in less than half an hour! I picked up some large and small rattan pumpkins from The Home Depot to use for the project.

The pumpkins are great because they are already decorated, are super light so they hang easily. They are loaded with pre-strung battery operated lights, so you can light your garland up at night!

I attached four screw eye rings into my door frame down the length of the side that I wanted to highlight. (If you don’t want to attach any permanent fixtures to your door frame, you can opt to use temporary hooks instead.)

I picked up two sections of grapevine garland from my local craft store and un-rolled them.

Using zip ties, begin attaching the garland, one at a time, to each of your hooks. Play around with the shape and bend/twist/move your garland until you get it into a place and position that you like.

After the first garland is attached, secure the second garland.  Then, using zip ties, begin attaching the small pumpkins to the same hooks, in any areas that you want to highlight. (I chose to place one on top, one in the center, and one on the bottom of my pumpkin garland.)

Once the main components of your garland are secured, cut sections of your faux leaf garland into pieces and attached them to sections of your grapevine garland using zip ties! So easy!

Cut off the excess ends of your zip ties, and you’re done!

The garland gives your door a big wow factor, but is actually really easy to pull off using simple supplies.

Next up, I picked out a darling door mat, a cute little hay bale, and picked out a few bags of the gourd variety pack that The Home Depot had. I used some existing lanterns that I had and filled them with the small gourds.

It’s an easy way to add some festive flair without having to worry about keeping candles lit.

Another great and easy way to make a statement is by using spray paint. I picked up some dried ears of corn at my local grocery store (craft stores usually carry them too!) and covered the cobs with two coats of metallic spray paint. It’s an easy way to add some glam to your décor and tie it into the color palette you are using.

I placed them around the gourd filled lanterns to add a bit more dimension to the design.
